$400K in unclaimed funds at treasurer's office

Posted: Updated:

SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) – The San Diego County Treasurer-Tax Collector announced Wednesday he's looking for the owners of over $400,000 in unclaimed funds.

Property taxpayers or others who may have done business with any department of the county in the past four years could have refund money waiting to be claimed.

September 8 is the deadline to claim the funds, and this can be done at any of five county treasure-tax collector offices in San Diego.

"We are totally open and transparent about the names, the people and how much is owed. It is after all a public record, and we intend to try to get as much as that money back as we can," Dan McCallister said.

If people do not come forward to claim the money by the September deadline, it will go to the general fund of the county and will not be available for refund after that.
