An "oh my gosh" mish mosh

SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - Take two of San Diego's favorite desserts and smash them up together and what have you got? The answer: one amazing summertime treat.

At Betty's Pie Whole Saloon in Encinitas, They bake for breakfast, they brand hand pies for lunch that are filled with chicken broccoli and chicken breasts and then there are mules for dinner and they are filled mashed potatoes, smoked gouda, cheddar cheese and broccoli.

There are Grandma Lucy's Chicken Pies with free ranch chicken, an herb parmesan crust, peas, carrots and zucchini.

And fruit pies of all sizes. They have three sizes: itty bitty bite size, the individual size and the nine inch family size.

To top it off, Elizabeth started making her own ice cream.

“Local eggs, cream, organic Tahitian vanilla beans, milk and sugar,” she explained.

With all this activity, there's bound to be some accidents - a crushed crust or a punctured pie.

“I felt like I didn't want to throw away our pies at the end of the day,” said Elizabeth. “So I started playing around with mixing it into the ice cream.”

The result is an over the top treat she calls evilly good mud pie ice cream. She took the world's two best desserts, and slammed them together like a head-on collision.

Betty's Pie Whole Saloon has all sorts of variations on the pie ice cream theme. A simple but brilliant idea.
