Man saved by anti-heroin drug

Posted: Updated:

EL CAJON (CBS 8) – An El Cajon man's life was saved Wednesday after a sheriff's deputy administered a drug to reverse the effects of a heroin overdose.

The man's mother called 911 around 8 a.m. after finding her son – a known heroin user – unconscious with no pulse.

The sheriff's sergeant was the first to arrive and administered Naloxone, a nasal spray that deputies recently began carrying. The man started breathing again, and medics took him to the hospital.

Deputies are carrying the drug as part of a six-month pilot program to gauge its effectiveness.
