Fugitive sex offender arrested in Mexico

SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A convicted sex offender wanted on a parole violation stemming from a violent 2012 home invasion in Bakersfield was arrested in Tijuana and returned to the United States on Saturday, officials said.

Isaac Alawdi, 32, was arrested Friday evening in Tijuana and turned over to U.S. Marshals' custody at the San Ysidro Port of Entry Sunday, Deputy U.S. Marshal Dante Salazar said.

Alawdi, previously convicted of committing lewd acts with a child under 14 years of age, was arrested in November 2012 on suspicion of burglary and assault charges after he stabbed an elderly Bakersfield man in the neck during a home invasion.

Alawdi was released on bond while awaiting trial for that incident and on June 6, 2013, he slipped his GPS monitoring device and had been on the run ever since, Salazar said.

U.S. Marshals received a tip recently from the Tijuana Municipal Police after Alawdi presented them a false Mexican ID, Salazar said.

Alawdi was booked on suspicion of violating parole and is being held at the San Diego Central Jail, according to the San Diego County Sheriff's website. Salazar said Alawdi will appear in court on Monday.
