Massive manhunt for North County robber

SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - Two robberies Monday morning may be connected in North County.

One of the robberies was at a dry cleaners in the Del Mar area on Via de la Valle. A second robbery was in Encinitas in the 100 block of Saxony Road.

The man reportedly had a gun and told a teller, "Give me the 100s and don't give me any tracking devices."

A Police K-9 named Bary is aiding deputies in the investigation. He had only one thing to go off of -- a door stop the suspect reportedly left behind.

Bary's trainer Peter Alvarado says a dog's smell is so much greater than a human's, that even without that door stop, he can still do his job.

"They're called 'rafts' of skin. Pieces of skin fall of us as we're walking away. Those are things dogs can pick up on when they're following somebody," Alvarado said.

While Bary hasn't found the suspect in question, Alvarado says his work could lead to an arrest as detectives start looking for witnesses and surveillance video in the areas where he stopped tracking.

Investigators are looking for a black male who was last seen wearing a blue hoodie, sunglasses, grey pants and a camouflage bandana. He's considered armed and dangerous.
