SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - Several people are recovering from injuries Monday, after a car plowed through a crowd at an intersection downtown.

It happened during a Comic-Con zombie walk this weekend.

We're getting our first look at new video that shows what police are calling an unfortunate incident that occurred Saturday night outside Comic-Con. It happened during the the 8th Annual Zombie Walk and shows a black Honda Accord surrounded by participants. Then you see it step on the gas and drive through the crowd.

"People went flying over the windshield, over the front of the car. I've never seen anything like it," one witness said.

In an age of cell phone cameras, this is just one of several videos taken of this incident we've received. In the aftermath, among the crowd was this 64-year-old woman in pink.

"All of a sudden the street got blocked and this car started honking at the people and like a minute later I saw people pushing the car," said another witness.

And police say that's what spooked this 42-year-old driver who had stopped at the intersection of Second and Island downtown. They say he and his family are deaf and as their car was surrounded people started beating on the car and even shattered a windshield.

"At one point, a 64-year-old female who was a participant in the event jumped on the hood of the car, according to witness statements. At that point the driver appears to have panicked and gassed his car through the crowd," San Diego police Lt. Paul Rorrison said.

That woman would suffer a severe arm injury. As for that driver, police say he and his family drive several blocks down the street until they reached an officer.

"When you see that it is real you have to try and do something," Amado Rodriguez said.

"He shouldn't have done that. But the crowd was pushing his car," one witness said.

CBS News 8 spoke to police Monday morning and asked if there were going to be any charges in this case. They said the incident is still under investigation, and wont be releasing any further information until it's complete.
