Rare gems on exhibit in Carlsbad

Posted: Updated:

CARLSBAD (CBS 8) - Some unique pieces of jewelry are currently on display in Carlsbad.

The gems have all been featured in the award-winning journal Gems and Gemology. The Beauty of Science: Gems and Gemology celebrates the magazine's 80th birthday and features photos taken over 25 years by Harold and Erica Van Pelt.

The creators of the exhibit wanted to showcase these rare pieces next to their iconic photos.

"They're pieces that have been collected and treasured for lifetimes, and we're able to see them here all together," exhibit designer McKenzie Santimer said.

You can check out the exhibit at the Gemological Institute of America in Carlsbad. It runs through December.
