"Honey oil" labs a growing, explosive threat

First responders in San Diego County are seeing an increase in explosions caused by the manufacturing of a drug called "honey oil."
SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - First responders in San Diego County are seeing an increase in explosions caused by the manufacturing of a drug called "honey oil."

This week, they set up a test to simulate the dangerous process.

Honey oil is also called "hash oil" or "wax." It's created when someone uses butane to extract THC from marijuana.

The person trying to create the honey oil can suffer serious burns if the process goes wrong. Authorities also warn the resulting explosion and fire can harm innocent people who live in apartments or homes near where the drugs are being made.
