The victim was walking east on El Cajon Boulevard near 50th Street shortly before 11 p.m. Tuesday when he was assaulted by the suspect who had been walking westbound, San Diego police Officer Dino Delimitros said.

The suspect pulled a knife and stabbed the victim near his left armpit, Delimitros said. He was taken to a hospital to be treated for the non-life-threatening injury, the officer said.

Police described the assailant as a black man wearing a striped shirt who had an arm in a sling.
