San Diego junior lifeguards go through CPR program

Posted: Updated:

SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - San Diego junior lifeguards got the opportunity to get CPR certified Wednesday.

Youths ages 14, 15 and 16 received hands-on CPR training at the Santa Clara Recreation Center during a several-hours-long course. The training is brand new to the program this year.

The purpose of junior lifeguards is to build skills for life, and that's exactly what participants got a chance to do Wednesday.

"I now have the skills so if this ever came up, I could work like that and I'd be in it and I would know what to do and I could save lives," participant Teak Hodge said.

All of the kids got CPR certificates from the American Heart Association for taking part.
