SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - What did we learn from the Chargers' 27-7 pre-season win over the Cowboys Thursday night? First of all, this team is well coached. There were very few mistakes made, a minute number of penalties and the offense hummed with an ease and efficiency not expected after just two weeks of training camp.
The Chargers also possess a lot of talent and depth especially on the offensive side of the football. The three-headed monster that lurks behind Philip Rivers may have a few more tentacles than we thought. Rookie running back Branden Oliver looks like a play maker. He wears number 43 and many will think he's Darren Sproles reincarnated but he's about two inches taller and 20 pounds heavier and still very hard to catch.
Offensive Coordinator Frank Reich looked comfortable in his new role and stuck to his mantra of dictating the tempo. His offense controlled the line of scrimmage and made the Cowboys defense look silly at times.
It's way too early to get overly excited but 14 of 16 passing efficiency, 152 yards rushing and just 4 penalties, none in the 2nd half, tells me this team is well ahead of schedule.
