ESCONDIDO (CNS) - A driver suffered major injuries Tuesday when his vehicle veered off Interstate 15 north of Escondido.
The single-vehicle crash off the northbound side of the freeway south of Deer Springs Road was reported shortly after midnight, according to the California Highway Patrol and Cal Fire.
The driver initially told authorities two passengers were in the vehicle at the time of the crash, although after a sheriff's helicopter was dispatched to search the area, he then said he had been alone, according to Cal Fire Capt. Kendal Bortisser.
Bortisser said it was unknown if alcohol or drugs were a factor in the crash.
