2 men dead in San Ysidro border crossing attempt

Two men in their 20s are dead Tuesday in what's believed to be a failed smuggling attempt at the San Ysidro border crossing.

SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) – Two men in their 20s are dead Tuesday in what's believed to be a failed smuggling attempt at the San Ysidro border crossing.

A medical emergency was reported at the border station in southwestern San Diego County about 2:30 p.m., according to U.S. Customs and Border Protection and the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department. Two men were discovered inside a vehicle, and one died at the scene. The second man was transported to Scripps Chula Vista in grave condition, and was later pronounced dead.

Customs spokeswoman Angelica De Cima said the incident was "related to an alleged illegal entry attempt."

The deaths were under investigation.
