SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - An investigation was underway Wednesday into the slaying of a woman in Spring Valley by a man who then apparently tried to commit suicide, authorities said.
Sheriff's deputies, responding to a report of a death at a home in the 500 block of Parkbrook Street
near Elkelton Boulevard at about 6:45 p.m. Tuesday, say they found 58-year-old Michael Dean Mifflin inside, bleeding with cuts to his wrists after he apparently attempted suicide. They also found a woman's body in another room of the house. She had suffered traumatic wounds. Another woman entered the house and discovered the body before she called 911.
"There was a third person who returned and found the woman dead inside. She called 911 to report the death," said San Diego County Sheriff's Lt. Glenn Giannantonio. Her name was withheld pending family notification.
The Sheriff's Homicide Detail is investigating the incident. Authorities haven't identified the victim or the suspect and their exact relationship. They are only being called "roommates" at this time.
The suspect was hospitalized for treatment of his injuries and was then taken into custody on his release, said Giannantonio. He later apparently suffered another medical emergency unrelated to the suicide attempt and was readmitted to the hospital.
Officials disclosed no suspected motive for the killing.https://twitter.com/GeneCBS8/status/499524776591777794
