Hit-and-run driver hurt in 30-foot fall

A woman is seriously hurt and facing charges after she's accused of taking a drunken joy ride that ended with a 25 foot fall into a storm drain.

LAKESIDE (CNS) - A suspected drunken driver suffered major injuries early Monday when she fell into a drainage ditch while allegedly trying to flee from the site of a hit-and-run crash in Lakeside.

Michelle Taylor, 40, was driving a 2014 Honda Accord south on Los Coches Road near Cochera Road around 1 a.m., veered to the right and crashed into a parked 2000 Dodge Durango, CHP Officer Kevin Pearlstein said.

Witnesses to the crash attempted to persuade Taylor to stay at the scene, but she ran off and left her wrecked car behind, Pearlstein said.

Pearlstein said Taylor ran north on Los Coches, scaled a chain link fence behind a home and fell about 30 feet into a concrete drainage ditch. She again tried to flee after the fall but was stopped by officers, he said.

She was taken to Sharp Memorial Hospital to be treated for her injuries, and was placed under arrest at the hospital in suspicion of drunken driving and hit and run, Pearlstein said.
