SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - The wife of a cyclist who was hit by a wrong way driver on Fiesta Island updated us on her husband Thursday.

Juan Carlos Vinolo was riding with his cycling group when DUI suspect Teresa Owens plowed into them last week. The 43-year-old husband and father of two was the most seriously injured.. He's now paralyzed from the chest down. He remains in critical condition at UCSD Medical Center.

"Thank you all for your messages, your donations but most of all thank you for your prayers that are giving us the strength that we need at a time like this," wife Emma Vinolo said.

His wife says he's expected to go into surgery on Friday.
