Wiz Khalifa concert at Sleep Train canceled

A Wiz Khalifa concert scheduled for Saturday at Sleep Train Amphitheatre was cancelled as authorities continued to investigate Friday's backstage shooting death at the artist's concert in Mountain ...

CHULA VISTA (CBS 8) - A shooting at Friday night's Wiz Khalifa concert in the Bay Area prompted concert officials to cancel the rapper's Saturday night show in Chula Vista.

Mountain View police say a 38-year-old man was shot multiple times backstage around 11 p.m., after the concert had ended at the Shoreline Amphitheatre. This morning he died at the hospital.

"The firearm that was used was a black pistol with a large magazine, said Shinto Tanaka, a spokesperson for the dept.

Police haven't released the victim's name or revealed how or if he's connected to the concert. Investigators say it's also unclear how he got a weapon inside the venue.

"We don't know," said Tanaka. "This is an ongoing investigation, we are definitely going to try and determine how an individual was able to bring a firearm into Shoreline."

Wiz Khalifa tweeted a statement Saturday saying "This was a senseless tragedy, violence is never the answer. My prayers go out to the victims family."

Fans that showed up at the Sleep Train Amphitheatre in Chula Vista Saturday evening found signs saying the show has been canceled.

"I was bummed about it," said Teresa Rodriguez. "I had been hyped up actually been waiting a whole year. My daughter won backstage passes."

Charlie Elkins drove three hours from Apple Valley to attend the concert. He says what happened Friday night shouldn't have affected tonight's performance.

"That's over there in the Bay, this is down here in San Diego," he said. "Everybody's very disappointed. Why does all that violence over there gotta mess up our fun down here?"

A spokesperson for Live Nation sent CBS News 8 this response in regards to ticket refunds:
