SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. (AP) — Five Cal Poly San Luis Obispo football players have made their first court appearance on charges that they tried to rob a fraternity.
The Tribune newspaper reports that the defendants did not enter pleas during Monday's proceeding in San Luis Obispo County Superior Court, and a second arraignment was scheduled for Sept. 15.
Judge Hugh F. Mullin III did increase bail for one defendant, 19-year-old Cameron Marcel Akins, from $60,000 to $110,000.
Prosecutors allege that Akins brandished a gun and demanded money and drugs during the Aug. 10 incident at the Delta Sigma Phi fraternity house.
All five players have been suspended from California Polytechnic State University's Mustangs football team. Cal Poly's president has said the university will investigate possible illegal drug and criminal activity in the program.
