Arraignment for Marine accused of murder

Posted: Updated:

(CBS 8) - The former Marine accused of killing his alleged lover -- 19-year-old Marine wife Erin Corwin -- will face a judge in San Bernardino County Tuesday.

He waived extradition in Alaska.

Loved ones say they're one step closer to justice.

Former Marine corporal, 24-year-old Christopher Lee, will be arraigned on a murder charge.

Marine wives, friends, family and people who helped search for Erin Corwin held a vigil for her Monday night in Twentynine Palms.

Lee's accused of murdering Corwin, who authorities say was his alleged lover and that she was pregnant with his child.

They were neighbors at one point.

Police say he disposed of her body in a 14-story abandoned mine shaft near Joshua Tree National Park.

He was recently arrested in Anchorage, Alaska after a two month search through the desert.

Corwin told her husband -- Marine corporal Jonathan Corwin -- she was going to Joshua Tree National Park for hiking trails.

Her friends say she loved the outdoors, she'll be missed terribly.

"She's a person first...a daughter, a wife a friend and so much more to so many people and that's what she needs to be remembered as," a close friend said.

"She was a good girl she was a good friend and I wish people would have a little more compassion," another close friend said.

Officials haven't released the cause of Corwin's death.

However "22 caliber casings and pieces of rebar" were found at the scene -- similar casings were found in Lee's home.

Erin's husband says he feels some type of closure.

His most cherished memory of her is their prom because "there was just something about the way she looked that night."
