Man arrested for weapons in fight with apartment manager

VISTA (CNS) - A 41-year-old man who threatened workers at a Vista apartment complex was jailed Thursday after a search of his residence turned up a billy club, several firearms and military ordnance, a sheriff's sergeant said.

Sheriff's detectives began looking into Clifften Peter Dominik Korsch last week after he flashed the baton twice to workers at the complex in the 200 block of Grapevine Road near Date Street and opened his apartment door to a staff member holding what appeared to be a rifle, sheriff's Sgt. Tom Ness said.

Shortly before 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, complex employees called deputies because a "suspicious person" there was in possession of a billy club and was claiming there was a gas leak at or near his apartment, Ness said.

Sheriff's officials obtained a search warrant for Korsch's residence, which was carried out by the sheriff's department's Special Enforcement Detail Wednesday night, Ness said. The search turned up a billy club, a .40-caliber Glock handgun, a shotgun, an assault rifle, a hunting rifle, a military vest and a helmet.

Also found was an apparently inert piece of ordnance, which a bomb/arson investigator was summoned to collect.

Ness said investigators were working to determine whether Korsch's possession of the firearms was legal.

Sheriff's Lt. Herb Taft said the suspect only speaks German and there was some delay in getting him out of the apartment while authorities contacted an interpreter. He later exited the apartment and was arrested without incident, authorities said.

Korsch was booked into the Vista Detention Facility on suspicion of three counts of possession of a billy club, three counts of exhibiting a weapon other than a firearm and possession of stolen property.
