SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - I wanted to get in the water at Carlsbad despite the warnings all around me. The shallow water current looked more like a river moving from south to north. The waves at times looked to be six to eight feet.

Surfers bulldozed their way through crushing waves just to get one good ride. I wanted to be a part of the excitement but I stopped myself. No need to flirt with danger. The lifeguards had their hands full.

So, if you're thinking about checking out these, at times, monstrous waves whether they be here or in Orange County watch from a distance. You can get some great pictures just sitting on the beach. Thank you Tropical Storm Marie.
