Joan Rivers in critical condition after being rushed to hospital

Joan Rivers is in critical condition in a New York City hospital after she stopped breathing during surgery Thursday morning, TMZ reports.

The comedienne and Fashion Police host was rushed to the hospital after she went into either cardiac or respiratory arrest while undergoing a procedure on her vocal chords, according to TMZ.

Rivers, 81, seemed perfectly healthy during E!'s coverage of the Emmys and VMAs on Tuesday, offering her typically fiery commentary on stars' red carpet attire.
