SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - Saturday, sand artists from all over the world gathered in San Diego to create some amazing sculptures.
They're here for the U.S. Open Sand Sculpting Challenge and 3D Art Exposition taking place this weekend at the B Street Pier.
Artists create elaborate sculptures using just water and sand -- all for a shot to win a $60,000 grand prize and some serious bragging rights.
For spectators, it's a chance to enjoy art in a some perfect beach weather.
"There's so many people down here just having a great time. It's 80 degrees in San Diego and who wouldn't want to be here right now," Gary Gurian said.
The event continues through Labor Day.
