CHULA VISTA (CNS) - A preliminary hearing was postponed Thursday until Sept. 10 for a man accused of fatally shooting a nursing assistant outside a South Bay restaurant after a fight at a World Cup viewing party.

Daniel Arce Gonzalez, 36, was charged with murder in the June 17 death of Josue Crook, also 36. Patrol officers responding to reports of gunfire in the 300 block of Highland Avenue found Crook on a sidewalk in front of Rincon Del Mar restaurant. He died at a hospital.

Gonzalez was arrested July 14 in Tijuana and turned over to National City police officials. He faces 50 years to life in prison if convicted, Deputy District Attorney David Grapilon said.

A second defendant, 37-year-old Salvador Chavez, was charged with Crook's murder under an aiding and abetting theory, Grapilon said.

The prosecutor said Chavez also faces an assault with a deadly weapon charge for allegedly stabbing a second victim.
