EL CAJON (CBS 8) - A group of El Cajon residents are protesting a plan to lease the East County Performing Arts Center to the Rock Church.
The church would use the theater for services every weekend and build a separate building next door for church offices. But some are against the proposal and would prefer to keep the theater a performing arts center.
They also question the actions of the city council, saying lawmakers are working out a deal without input from the public.
"They haven't had any public information meetings, nothing with regard to this theater. Everything has been done behind closed doors," said Ray Lutz.
City leaders have not made a final decision on a lease agreement with the church.
