Police cruiser hits motorist in College Area

Posted: Updated:

SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A San Diego police cruiser was involved Tuesday in a two-vehicle crash that left a motorist with minor injuries, authorities reported.

The squad car collided with a 2000 Cadillac at College Avenue and El Cajon Boulevard shortly after noon, SDPD public-affairs Lt. Kevin Mayer said.

The involved officer reported no injuries. The other driver -- the subject of two outstanding felony arrest warrants -- was taken to a hospital for treatment of superficial trauma.

It was not immediately clear who was at fault for the crash. Witness Rodrigo Gutierrez told CBS News 8 he was driving behind the Cadillac right before the cop car slammed into it. He said they had the green light.

"I was planning on going through El Cajon (Boulevard) when out of nowhere the cop car comes slamming into the Cadillac. It was scary," he said.

Gutierrez also said the police cruiser's lights were flashing, but he did not hear a siren.

"I didn't hear anything. Lights were flashing... no siren," he said.

The crash is under investigation.
