Poway's power breakfast

Posted: Updated:

POWAY (CBS 8) - A former police officer has found his niche in a countrified cafe where locals get a jump start on the day.

"We serve a lot of food and that's what kept us around for a long time. We got these big plates. You'll see them, 14 inches in diameter. Lots of food. We've kept the same prices for about the last… haven't changed my menu in 10 years," Cully's owner said.

You can grab and go, or you can sit and stew. But griddle groupies have their own reasons to return. It will turn city slickers into country cousins.

"I'm from Pacific Beach, I'm taking a ride out in the country today and having breakfast," one diner said.

"The food, the people, the service, you see the same faces every day. You can't beat the prices. The food never changes," a diner said.

Cully's is joining the grass roots movement to ban the credit card for all food purchases. They'd rather take a check than plastic.

"I don't think I've had a bad check in the last 10 years, but I accept them," Cully's owner said.

Breaking daily bread in Poway has become a righteous ritual at Cully's. After a daily visit here, you are either ready to take on the day, or a least a nice long nap.
