Backlash against accused North Park attacker on Facebook

Posted: Updated:

SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) – Thousands of people are taking over the Facebook page of a suspect accused of assaulting women in North Park.

On Thursday, David A. Drake, 23, was charged with 18 counts involving, robbery, assault and sexual penetration with force involving seven women in the North Park area since April.

Drake left his Facebook page open before he was arrested. Many of the comments are vulgar, racist, sexist and filled with expletives. Some of the comments defend Drake, while others lash out on those defending the suspect.

Drake had a handful of followers leading up to his arrest. Now has more than 650, and thousands of comments under his posts about women.

CBS News 8 also found out  that people are upset with police and question if Drake is the right man, and if he is the one in the surveillance photos.

The suspect description in two of the assaults was listed as Latino, light-skinned or white. The jail has Drake listed as black. Police also reported there could be an accomplice who hasn't been arrested.

Drake is scheduled to be back in court on September 17 for a bail hearing. He is currently being held on $5 million bail.
