Paws 'FUR' Pink 5k to benefit breast cancer research

Posted: Updated:
SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - Get your laces and leashes ready -- the first-ever San Diego Paws FUR Pink 5K is this weekend.

Breast cancer survivors, supporters, and their four legged friends will take part in the event to benefit Susan G. Komen.

The inaugural San Diego Paws FUR Pink 5K and 1 mile run/walk will be held on Sunday, September 21 at Liberty Station in San Diego from 7 to 10:30 a.m.

This dog-friendly event partially benefits Susan G. Komen San Diego to support local breast health services and celebrates the unconditional love we share with our four-legged family members. Produced by Book That Event, LLC -- Paws FUR Pink has had a presence in Orange County for the past two years and is now expanding to San Diego.

“Breast cancer has affected my life in a very unusual way. My dog, Roxy, the poster dog for San Diego's Paws FUR Pink, recently underwent a triple mastectomy after five hard lumps were discovered in her mammary tract,” said Jennifer Therieau, Roxy's owner. “This event is such a great way for owners to get outdoors and exercise with their four-legged friends to make a difference in the lives of women in San Diego."

All events on Sunday start/finish at Liberty Station: 2640 Historic Decatur Road. For more information or to register, please visit PawsFurPinkSD.com.
