Driver sought in fatal hit-and-run crash

OCEANSIDE (CNS) - Police asked for the public's help Sunday to identify the driver of a late-model Kia Soul involved in a fatal hit-and-run crash with a bicyclist, a sergeant said.

Oceanside police received a report at 5:41 a.m. Sunday that a man's body was in the 3900 block of North River Road, Sgt. Ignacio Lopez told City News Service. Officers arrived and found the victim next to his bicycle.

Officers and emergency medical personnel attempted to revive the man, but he was pronounced dead at the scene, Lopez said. Officers determined the Kia Soul was headed westbound on North River Road at the time, but it was unclear when the crash occurred or when the victim died.

Vehicle debris at the scene identified the suspect's vehicle as a 2012 or 2013 Kia Soul in an "alien green" color, similar to lime green, Lopez said in a press release. The vehicle would have damage on the front end of the passenger side, including a missing headlamp assembly.

Anyone with information about the hit-and-run crash or the suspect vehicle was asked to call Oceanside police's Traffic Services Unit at (760) 435-4801.
