SAN DIEGO (AP) - A San Diego County couple who were detained by narcotics officers in a medical marijuana raid, then later acquitted of criminal charges at trial, are suing law enforcement officials.
U-T San Diego reported Wednesday that Dennis and Deborah Little's lawsuit claims officers used excessive force during the October 2012 raid at their Ramona home. The suit also accuses officers of conducting an unreasonable search and seizure and exaggerating information to obtain a search warrant.
The complaint, filed Sept. 12 in federal court, names Sheriff Bill Gore, San Diego Police Chief Shelley Zimmerman and a handful of law enforcement officers who participated in the raid.
The Littles say they were growing their own medical marijuana under the state's legal guidelines.
Officials for both the city and the county said they are not permitted to comment on pending litigation.
