PACIFIC BEACH (CNS) - A suspected drunken driver slammed into a police cruiser and two other vehicles at a checkpoint in Pacific Beach, and was facing drunken driving charges Saturday.

Eleven other suspected drunken drivers were also stopped overnight at or around the checkpoint in the 2700 block of Garnet Avenue, near Mission Bay Drive, according to San Diego police Officer Mark McCullough. More than 1,150 vehicles passed through the checkpoint between 11:20 p.m. Friday and 3 a.m. Saturday.

At some point during the operation, a speeding drunken driver entered the checkpoint area and crashed into a police car and two other vehicles, McCullough said.

No one was injured.

That driver was arrested on suspicion of drunken driving, McCullough said, and no names were released as of this afternoon.

Another suspected drunken driver was arrested at a similar checkpoint in the 3500 block of Oceanside Boulevard, near Rancho del Oro Drive in Oceanside, according to Sgt. Ignacio Lopez of the Oceanside Police Department.

Officers also cited 20 of the 547 drivers who were screened by officers at that checkpoint during the operation from 9:20 a.m. Friday and 2:30 a.m., Lopez said.
