PB gets dozens of new ashcans

Volunteers with the Surfrider Foundation are doing their part to keep cigarette butts off the streets of Pacific Beach.

PACIFIC BEACH (CBS 8) - Volunteers with the Surfrider Foundation are doing their part to keep cigarette butts off the streets of Pacific Beach.

Sunday, more than 20 volunteers with the San Diego County chapter's Hold On To Your Butt committee installed 50 new ashcans, cleaned up existing ones, and picked up cigarette butts.

The ashcans can hold up to 1,500 cigarette butts, and were first installed in Ocean Beach about six years ago.

"Literally millions of cigarette butts have been kept off the sidewalks and the streets... and toxins are not being flushed down into the ocean," Manase Mansur said.

I Love a Clean San Diego and Discover PB also partnered with the Surfrider Foundation to make today possible.
