SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - A jogger sprang into action at Mission Bay Park Monday, helping to catch a man suspected of trying to assault a woman and her child.

Donovan Roberts says he was on his daily run when a woman screamed and ran out of a public restroom. She pointed to a man and said he had walked in on her while she was helping her young son.

Roberts took off after the man, calling 911 as he ran. He stayed with him for about two and a half miles before he was joined by a police officer.

"I'm really glad he got there when he did. I'm not used to trail running, and there were rocks, weeds, right next to the creek bed so I was worried that I was going to lose the guy but he was there. Fresh legs," Roberts said.

An officer tackled the man and arrested him on suspicion of sexual battery. Police have not released his identity.
