Police searching for driver in deadly hit-and-run

San Diego police are investigating a fatal hit-and-run in Paradise Hills along Appian Drive and Woodman Street.

SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - Police are searching for the hit-and-run driver in the death of a pedestrian who was dragged 200 feet after his was struck.

The victim's body was discovered near the intersection of Appian Drive and South Woodman Street around 10:00 p.m. Tuesday, according to San Diego police officer Dino Delimitros.

The victim, a Hispanic male, suffered serious trauma before he died. Police say the person that called 911 told officers that the victim's body was dragged for about 200 feet as the driver headed eastbound to Casey Street.

Nearby resident Yolanda, who didn't want to give her last name, told CBS News 8 what she heard as the crash happened.

"I have to tell you , it had to be the most horrifying cry I ever heard," she said. "I just heard this big crashing noise and screams, and I thought it was my kids, and when I went in they were asleep. Then we heard police out here."

San Diego police investigators say they're looking for a red tractor-trailer.

"The cab is red, trailer is silver in color. The trailer is completely enclosed," Lt. Kevin Mayer said.

The victim has not been publicly identified, but his death is weighing heavily on both investigators and area residents.

"It is a horrific, violent crash. We need the public to help solve this case," Mayer said.
