Cal Fire prepares for wildfires ahead of hot, windy weather

SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - It's October, and Santa Ana winds are coming our way, raising concern for wildfires.

Cal Fire has added extra staff and more firefighting equipment in the region. An additional air tanker will be at the Ramona Airport this weekend. If a fire starts, three air tankers will be ready to fight the flames.

Officials say this time of year is always especially dangerous.

"Historically here in San Diego County, the end of September, October and the beginning of November is our deadliest and most devastating month for wildfires," Cal Fire Capt. Kendal E. Bortisser said.

Fire officials are asking for the public's help during the high fire danger. Be careful with when clearing brush or cooking outside. Also, make sure there is 100 feet of defensible space around your home.
