Tangled dump truck causes power outage in North Park

SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - Several dozen North Park residents were left without power Thursday after a dump truck damaged a power pole.

It happened just after 10:30 a.m. at the intersection of Illinois and Boundary streets. Resident Breanna Avila told CBS News 8 the construction noise was nothing new, until she heard something unusual.

"About an hour later you just hear people screaming, 'What are you doing?' So we all come outside and see they tilted the light pole out there," she said.

Witnesses say the driver of the truck got the vehicle's bucket tangled in the wires of a telephone pole, pulling down power lines for several apartments. Firefighters were called to the scene.

"This is really an unfortunate situation, because this is the second time the power has been down this week because of the construction work," property owner Brenda Hamilton said.

According to SDG&E, power was restored at about 4 p.m.
