Brush fire in Penasquitos Canyon under control

SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - A brush fire that broke out Friday afternoon in the Los Penasquitos Canyon Preserve is under control.

The blaze was reported at about 5:20 p.m. near Calle Cristobal on the north side of Mira Mesa in dense brush. Seven fire engines were aided by two fire helicopters that were making water drops to help stop the fire's progression.

Crews had the fire under control by early evening after burning about a half-acre.

The cause of the fire was not known.
