Coronado considers future of eucalyptus trees

Posted: Updated:

SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - After a tree hugging protest, the Coronado City Council votes to replace four large eucalyptus trees along E Avenue.

The trees were deemed unsafe earlier this year, but when crews tried to remove them, some residents protested by spending the night in the trees.

Under the plan adopted Tuesday night, the trees will be replaced with similar eucalyptus trees. The city will also create a long-range plan to maintain all of the trees on the street.

Two of the original trees have been removed. There's no timetable yet to remove the other two.
