SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - San Diego police officers are searching Wednesday morning for a hit-and-run driver that may have been involved in a street race.

Witnesses say two cars were racing when one of the cars hit a man crossing the street at Imperial Avenue, west of Messina around 9:45 p.m. Tuesday

The hit-and-run vehicle is described as a white, 90's style Nissan Altima with a broken right tail light, San Diego police Officer Dino Delimitros said.

The pedestrian suffered major, but not life-threatening head injuries and a broken leg. He was taken UCSD Medical Center.

A city bus was in the area at the time of the crash and police are checking the onboard video to see if it can help identify the hit-and-run driver.
