VISTA (CBS 8) – A man accused of attacking a teenage girl in Vista is in jail.

San Diego County Sheriff's deputies say they took 28-year-old Trevin Young man into custody for attempting to sexually assault a 15 or 16-year-old girl at the transit bus stop on Eucalyptus Avenue and Alestar Street around 7:30 p.m. Wednesday night.

Deputies say Young grabbed the girl and dragged her behind an apartment complex. Investigators say the victim fought off her attacker and ran to a nearby apartment to call for help.

"She was brave," said Sgt. Dwain Washington. "She was talking with a deputy earlier and she seemed like she brave enough to fight off her attacker and run for help."

Deputies swarmed the area and say through the victim and witness descriptions they recognized the man as someone who frequents the area.

Patrol cars surrounded an apartment complex at the top of the hill on Normark Terrace where deputies say the man was standing on the balcony, he resisted, they tased him and took him into custody in the Vista jail.

The suspect's father says deputies called him during the search looking for his son and he believes this is case of mistaken identity and that his son wouldn't commit this act.

"I don't feel good about it. That is one of the reason's I'm here because when I heard about it, this is not in my son's character," said Eugene Mitchell, the suspect's father.

The victim did not go to the hospital. Deputies say she was questioned by detectives and released to her parents. Investigators say the victim did not know her alleged attacker.

Young was located in the boiler room of an apartment building where he was arrested for assault with the intent to commit rape. He was later booked into the Vista Detention Facility. Detectives from the Sexual Assault Unit will continue to investigate this incident.
