Rescued horses looking for good homes

Posted: Updated:

SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - Thirty-four horses found neglected and in poor health, on a property in Valley Center in August went up for adoption Saturday.

A silent auction was held at the San Diego County Animal Shelter from 10 a.m. to noon, and the minimum bid was only $100.

The horses were severely underweight and malnourished but thanks to some TLC from workers at County Animal Services they made a dramatic turn around in a matter of six weeks.

"They all look very healthy now. They've all had their hooves trimmed, they've all been seen by large animal vets, they're all ready now to go to good homes," Daniel DeSousa said.

Six horses were adopted at Saturday's auction -- there are 28 left that still need good homes.

Some of the footage used in this video story was shot using a GoPro camera.
