DeMaio denies accusations of sexual harassment

SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - Congressional candidate Carl DeMaio is firing back against allegations he sexually harassed a former campaign staffer, dismissing them as "an outrageous lie".

That former employee, Todd Bosnich, told CNN in an interview Friday that DeMaio, an openly gay Republican, would consistently try to corner him alone: in one instance, inviting Bosnich into his office.

"His office door was open and he was masturbating," Bosnich said. "I saw his penis in his hand, and he had a smile on his face and as soon as I came in he was looking at me. There was no mistaking whatsoever."

Bosnich, who is also openly gay, claims this harassment by DeMaio continued for months, and allegedly included massaging him, kissing his neck and groping him: including one evening where he claimed DeMaio gave Bosnich a ride back to his car after the campaign staff went out for drinks.

"When he pulled up to my car, he reached over to my lap and grabbed my crotch, and I flipped out and I pushed his hand away," Bosnich told CNN. "I was just shocked because I never had anyone do something like that to me, especially in a position of authority and trust."

Bosnich claims that one day after confronting DeMaio about the alleged harassment, he was fired from the campaign. He also said he was offered $50,000 in exchange for signing a non-disclosure agreement.

"I took it as an attempt to bribe me to keep my silence,' Bosnich told CNN. Bosnich added he did not sign anything, or accept any money from the campaign.

Earlier this week, Carl DeMaio flatly denied all of Bosnich's allegations of harassment, and countered that Bosnich was fired from the campaign because he had plagiarized a report from a national journal. DeMaio also identified Bosnich as a prime suspect in a break-in at the DeMaio campaign office shortly after his termination.

"He is clearly troubled," DeMaio told CNN. "He got caught for the damage he did to the campaign, and now he is manufacturing a cover story to explain the ways of his actions. It is unfortunate, it is untrue, and my hope is the police department will hold him accountable for his actions against our campaign."

Todd Bosnich denied the allegations he had plagiarized, and that he broke into the DeMaio campaign office, passing a polygraph test that corroborated his account, according to CNN.

There have been no charges brought against Bosnich by the District Attorney's office, nor have any charges been filed against Carl DeMaio for sexual harassment.
