Muslim leaders host safety expo in wake of threat

Posted: Updated:

SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - San Diego's Islamic leaders held a safety expo Saturday in light of a recent threatening letter sent to a local mosque.

The Council on American-Islamic Relations or CAIR says the letter referred to applying a "death sentence" and was accompanied by an unknown white substance.

The FBI says agents have determined the substance is not harmful. They are still investigating the contents of the letter.

Members of the Muslim community will meet with public safety officials Sunday at the Muslim Community Center in Clairemont Mesa.

"It is absolutely important to take it very seriously. What if something happened -- even if it is the smallest chance -- do we want to take that chance?" Hanif Mohebi said.

CAIR is also distributing a booklet detailing safety measures for mosques.
