Seal Beach to continue coyote killing for 3 weeks

Posted: Updated:

SEAL BEACH, Calif. (AP) — The city of Seal Beach will continue to trap and kill coyotes for three more weeks in an effort to control the aggressive animals.

The Orange County Register reports Tuesday that City Council took the action after hearing a progress report.

City Manager Jill Ingram says three coyotes have been killed so far.

The program was adopted after residents complained that coyotes were killing their pets.

While several people in the packed City Council chambers on Monday approved of continuing the program, several others, including animal rights activists, spoke out against it.

Councilman Michael Levitt said he had a change of heart and wanted to replace the killing he once supported with a hazing program to deter the critters.
