SAN DIEGO (CNS) - In the aftermath of Wednesday's deadly shooting spree in the Canadian capital of Ottawa, the FBI reminded its personnel to remain on high alert for such incidents in the United States, according to the U.S. agency's San Diego office.

"We are taking steps basically to ensure that our posture is appropriate for the threat level," FBI Special Agent Darrell Foxworth said.

Wednesday morning's shooting -- which took place at the Ottawa Parliament and at the Canada War Memorial -- left a soldier and a suspected gunman dead.

FBI agents say although the incident doesn't pose a specific threat in San Diego, they encourage people to report anything suspicious.

"We don't want people living in fear, but we want people to be aware," Foxworth said.

President Barack Obama told reporters that authorities did not initially "have all the information about whether this was part of a broader network or plan, or whether this was an individual, or series of individuals, who decided to take these actions."
