SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) – A married couple is in custody accused of child pornography crimes in San Diego.

The FBI says on Tuesday they arrested Jonathan M. Gastelum, 28, for distributing child pornography.

Gastelum's estranged wife, Jennifer R. Gastelum, 32, was arrested and is in state custody facing felony charges of child exploitation, child cruelty involving injury and distributing harmful matter to a minor.

On Wednesday, Jonathan Gastelum pleaded not guilty in federal court.

The FBI says agents in the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force started an investigation in September when they went undercover in a chat room.

They say Gastelum claimed he was a single father looking for a mother and then asked if someone would have sex with children. Court records show Gastelum sent four images of naked children performing sex acts as young as toddlers to a person he didn't know was an undercover agent.

“We were able to obtain images that Mr. Gastelum thought he was providing to someone else who was like-minded,” said Special Agent Darrell Foxworth. “When you are talking about crimes against children sexual exploitation against children they are very sensitive investigations because it involves the most vulnerable members of society.”

Gastelum also asked about movies with children in pain.

“We are going after these people,” said Foxworth.

Two weeks after the investigation started agents say Gastelum sent another disturbing picture of a naked toddler to an undercover agent says her left arm and leg and right arm and leg were tied together with rope and her mouth was covered with duct tape.

Computer forensics led investigators to a Skyline Hills home on Tuesday where they arrested Mr. Gastelum and seized his cell phone, laptop and hard drive.

The man who answered the door says Gastelum and his wife separated about four months ago and she has two young daughters.

The friend says she and the children used to live there with him in a room in the back of the garage and now it was only him.

Jennifer R. Gastelum is in state custody being held on $100,00 and is scheduled to be in court on Friday.
