VISTA (CBS 8) – A man is in custody after sheriff's deputies say he tried to start a fire at a large apartment complex in Vista.

Sheriff's deputies say Juan Bojorquez tried to set fire to the roof of the Mesa Garden Apartment Complex in the 800 block of East Bobier Drive. According to the San Diego County Sheriff's department, he was arrested after 11:00 p.m. Wednesday.

They say he collected dry brush, placed it on the roof of apartment building M and set it on fire.

The residents were evacuated, but no injuries were reported. Some residents who spoke to CBS News 8 said Bojorquez was jumping from roof to roof to roof before he was finally caught.

"I'm thankful to God that they caught caught him," resident, Kim Robison, said.

When firefighters and sheriff's deputies arrived, they say Bojorquez jumped off the roof and ran to a nearby church parking lot where they found him hiding in a shed.

Resident Emilio Reyes says he's seen Bojorquez riding a skateboard in the neighborhood. Now he's shocked by what happened.

"You're putting people at risk and in jeopardy. I don't feel that's fair to anybody, man. You know?" he said.

Bojorquez is being charged with suspicion of arson and being under the influence of a controlled substance.
