North County rally against domestic violence

Posted: Updated:
ESCONDIDO (CBS 8) - Crowds are joining together in Escondido for a walk to raise awareness about domestic violence.

A tree planting ceremony and memorial will take place after a two-mile walk Thursday afternoon in honor of Officer Laura Perez, who was killed in an alleged domestic dispute with her husband.

According to officials, there were nearly 17,000 reported domestic violence incidents in San Diego County last year.

People were encouraged to wear purple.
