SANTA ANA, Calif. (AP) — Authorities say a suspected drunken driver ran a red light at a Southern California intersection, causing a three-car crash that killed a man and injured seven others.
Santa Ana police said 23-year-old Herbert Calderon Granados was driving on a suspended license for a previous drunken driving conviction when the crash occurred late Saturday.
The Orange County Register reports the Lexus driven by Granados broadsided a Honda on South Bristol Street, sending the car careening into a pickup truck.
An 18-year-old passenger in the Honda died at the scene. The Honda's driver and two others were taken to the hospital after being extricated from the mangled vehicle.
Four passengers of the Lexus driven by Granados were also taken to a hospital. Two suffered serious injuries, and two had minor injuries.
